Formerly called "Inland Northwest Animal Sanctuary", Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary (HGAS) has blossomed from this resurrected 501(c)3 non-profit formed in 1965 - now operating in the 21st Century thanks to the vision of Board member Carol Snyder.
Our HGAS logo depicts the image of a very popular artwork, based on the story, “The Bremen Town Musicians”-
In the story, a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster-- all past their prime years in life and usefulness on their respective farms-- were soon to be discarded or mistreated by their owners. One by one the animals leave their homes and set out on a journey together. They decide to go to "Bremen", known for its freedom, to live without owners and to become musicians.
Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit with the mission to rescue homeless animals or animals in need, to offer a place of refuge to peacefully live out their lives, and to share our work and the animal's stories to create opportunities for Humane Education - thus resulting in a greater rescue culture.
